🎉 Good news for farmers and plant enthusiasts! Scientists from the American Chemical Society (ACS) have developed a wearable microneedle sensor that detects plant stress in less than a minute! 🌿
🔬 This sensor uses tiny spikes on the plant’s leaf surface to measure hydrogen peroxide, a common stress marker in plants like soybeans and tobacco. When plants experience stress due to environmental conditions, their cells use hydrogen peroxide to communicate and activate defense mechanisms. Early detection allows growers to take timely care of their plants, optimizing crop yields.
💡 Unlike complex and time-consuming methods, this sensor can directly measure hydrogen peroxide in just a minute at a very low cost, less than $1 per test. The sensor can be reused up to 9 times before the needles lose their sharpness.
🌾 This innovation will help farmers detect plant stress earlier, enabling better care and healthier crops, ultimately improving yields.
